Delegates were given a background to sustainability and why it is vital to business success. They also gave guidance on the preparation of a sustainability statement and a demonstration of sustainability assessment tools as well as the processes involved in environmental profiling and an explanation of the various tools and environmental certification schemes. Of particular interest to the delegates was a practical demonstration of the Green Guide, with particular emphasis on natural stone and how it can be assessed in terms of its sustainability.
Lively question and answer sessions followed each seminar, which were chaired by Nigel Stubbings who manages StoneTrain. In Watford, this was followed by a guided tour of BRE’s Innovation Park which is a pioneering demonstration community that features some of the world’s most sustainable buildings and innovative technologies. In York, delegates enjoyed a tour of Treasurer’s House, which stands in the shadow of York Minster and has a history spanning 2,000 years.
In the theme of sustainability the delegates were given a CD containing all the information and copies of the comprehensive slides.
