The member-exclusive Design & Installation of Natural Stone Flooring course is now a regular fixture in the Federation’s seminar calendar and this year’s course was a resounding success.

Held at the Thistle Euston Hotel, London, the course saw the Federation welcome 25 delegates from member firms.

The course provided attendees with a unique opportunity to learn how to design and install natural stone floors from the experts at first hand.  Between them the speakers have an invaluable wealth on industry experience and knowledge which delegates were able to make use of.

The day opened with an introduction from the Chairman, David Richardson of FMDC Ltd, and Chairman of Stone Federation’s Technical Committee.  The first session was taken by Steve Turner of Amarestone, giving a talk on the laying of stone which was followed by Rupert Pool of BRE Ltd who looked at flooring investigations as well as grouts and adhesives. After a coffee break, Harrison Goldman’s Peter Harrison gave a presentation on product standards which was followed by Ian Knifton who looked at the impregnation of natural stone.  Lunch provided the delegates with an opportunity to network with other industry professionals and after the break Bob Sewell of Lithofin gave a presentation of the impregnation of natural stone which included an overview on sealing stone as well as aftercare.  The final two talks were delivered by Peter Harrison looking at guidance on design and installation based on failures investigations and David Richardson focussing on slip resistance and CIRIA publication.

The final slot of the day saw the speakers join to form a technical panel for what was a very lively and engaging Q & A session.

The Federation would like to thank all the speakers for their part in making the day such a resounding success.
